21Colosseum and Palatine Hill
Let's finish our tour around Rome. Last time we walked around but didn't get to see the Colosseum, probably the most famous attraction from the capital of Italy. So here it is, along with Palatine Hill and Roman Forum.
1. Coming from our hotel, not the direction most tourist are coming from
2. Getting closer
3. Still unaware how many people are going to be waiting to get inside
4. Arch of Constantine
5. Already inside
6. We've decided to pay a bit more for a 'tour guide' to get inside quicker
7. Otherwise we would have waited in the queue for hours
8. I used quotes to describe our guide cause he was quite funny and seemed more into trying to speak all languages in the world than to get people interested in the history of Colosseum
9. And he was throwing a lot of unrelated facts in the air all the time ;)
10. When you think about when it was built it is indeed very impressive
11. Looking the the Palatine Hill, one of the 'seven hills of Rome'
12. One more look inside
13. Palatine Hill, that's where Romulus and Remus were supposed to be found
14. During the Empire several emperors resided there
15. Localisation wasn't too bad
16. Hard to imagine how it all looked when it was in it's glory
17. Interesting thing is, a lot of materials from here (i.e. marble) were used to build St Peter's Cathedral
18. Roman Forum
19. That's how I'm going to remember Rome, plenty of old, destroyed buildings around and no modern skyscrappers no matter which way you look
20. Another classic view
21. One more final look at the Colosseum in the background
Next European stop: Florence. Stay tuned :)
