Mongol Rally [1]: Czech Republic and Poland

Time for few more shots from this year’s Mongol Rally and we’re going to start with Czech Republic and Poland. Early days of the rally, we were still travelling on our own and as you can imagine we went to visit some friends and family in Poland. I even managed to visit the village my grandad was born in and meet his friends and neighbours! But let’s go back to the rally.

Sunset over Poland

Because of living in WA sunsets which are not over the ocean seem somehow unusual to me now. They can be just as nice tho. These few photos are from Poland but in few days I’m off to a continent I’ve never visited before and definitely hope for some nice landscapes over there. As always, when on the road I’ll probably be bit quiet (just like I’ve been lately) but when I’m back in Perth I’ll definitely try to make up for it.

Green, green Poland

I think I’ve never quite realised how green Poland is. Or maybe it’s just that Australia is so much different that I’m noticing it every time I come back now. I remember when it was “just a forest”, it’s not quite “just a forest” for me anymore.

Around Cybinka

Few shots from around where my parents live. Cybinka is a small town near the German border and it’s one of those places where time seems to go a little bit slower which makes it a perfect place to relax. At least for me. Ok, I admit, it may also have something to do with being generally happy when visiting my folks (unfortunately not too often lately) and enjoying mum’s awesome cooking ;)

Champions! Champions! Kolejorz!!

Every now and then people ask me what do I miss the most living so far away from my homeland. I have to admit that apart from the obvious – family and friends – one thing stands out the most: Lech Poznan. I really do miss being at Bulgarska 5/7 and these days to support my team instead of watching games live I wake up in the middle of the night and try to find them on the net. It’s not always easy but there’s something special in the feeling that I may actually be the only person on this side of the world celebrating goals being scored at 3 or 4am. But today it all doesn’t matter because for the first time since 1993 we won the Polish league! I’m sure there’s plenty of people celebrating in Poznan now, believe me that at least one person more than 13.500km away from the capital of Greater Poland is doing exactly the same :) Kolejorz!!
