Mongol Rally [9]: Mongolia!

Final leg of our crazy adventure: Mongolia. Mere 1800km that took us 10 days to drive in cars that were falling apart because of bad roads or no roads at all. But we stuck through it and after 38 days since the Czech-out party made it to the finish line! We’ve driven 12,863km, used 927 litres of petrol and raised over $3000 for awesome charities and our car (which was donated too). Once again massive thanks to everyone who helped along the way.

Mongol Rally [8]: Russia again

Our last stop before Mongolia – about 1000km through Altai Krai and Altai Republic in the south Siberia. And one more surprise, it definitely wasn’t what I expected. Very good roads, nice small touristy towns all the way and beautiful mountains all around. Definitely a place worth visiting.

Mongol Rally [7]: Kazakhstan again

After the awesomeness of Kyrgyzstan we came back to Kazakhstan to drive up to Russia. By that point we were racing with the time a bit cause my Russian visa was about to expire in few days and we had about 1200km to drive before we even got there (and additional 900 through there) and no idea about what the roads are going to be like. Because of that we had to split out convoy as our friends stopped for a day to get their car fixed but we hoped to reconnect in Mongolia.

Kyrgyzstan – one of the biggest positive surprises and probably my favourite place on our rally route. If I’m going to go back to any Asian countries we’ve visited along the way it’s probably going to be there. Awesome mountain drives, beautiful scenery and our fist yurt stay. It was quite amazing to realise how much different it is from Uzbekistan, pretty much right after we crossed the border.

Mongol Rally [5]: Uzbekistan

Now we’re definitely in a territory that I had no idea about before going on the rally. I mean I remember Socceroos playing Uzbekistan but apart from that knew nothing about the country. And, as the whole rally, with few difficulties along the way the experience over all turned out to be really good. Apart from Mongolia that’s actually where we spent most time along the way, partly due to the long distance we had to drive and partly due to a bad food poisoning that hit our convoy. Uzbeks turned out to be extremely friendly and always wanted to help, sometimes even too much. It was hard to get petrol in the north, money was best to be exchanged on the black market and everyone drove Daewoo – once you get used to that it was great fun :) Oh, and there’s actually heaps of tourists there.
