It doesn’t get much more remote than Iruya

If you thought some of the other places I’ve posted photos from before were remote, check this one out. A small town of Iruya sits nestled against the mountainside and it takes a bit of patience to get there through the unsealed road. But it’s worth it, you might even see the game of soccer from pretty high up.

San Antonio de Los Cobres and Abra del Acay

Ruta Nacional 51 took us to San Antonio de Los Cobres, a small town situated 3,750 meters above the sea level. We also made a little detour to Abra del Acay which might be a world’s highest point over a national route. The sign says its altitude is 4,895 m but apparently if you measure it with a GPS it’s 5,061 m. Not that much oxygen there, let me tell you that!

Puente del Inca and around, we got as close as 10km to the Chilean border. One day when I have enough time I’ll cross that border :)

Mendoza to Uspallata

After we left the capital we went across Argentina almost all the way west. 14-hour trip on the bus which included playing bingo in Spanish which is quite funny when you don’t speak the language and we got to Mendoza. Few problems with hiring a car from local Louis de Funes (he remembered Poland playing there in 1978 World Cup!), unexpected Chile national day celebrations and we were finally off on our first drive through the mountains.
